Player Talent Scout: Maxence Caqueret

Posted on 09th December 2019

Lyon have one of the best youth academies in European football, with players such as Karim Benzema, Nabil Fekir, Alexandre Lacazette, Samuel Umtiti, Anthony Martial and Ludovic Giuly all produced by Les Gones is recent years.

The production line shows no signs of slowing down, with graduate Houssem Aouar one of the current stars of the team. Amine Gouiri, Rayan Cherki and Oumar Solet have all made the step up to the first team squad this year along with 19 year-old midfielder Maxence Caqueret who made his first start for OL in the win over Strasbourg at the weekend.

Caqueret impressed as Lyon won 2-1, assisting the equalising goal for Maxwel Cornet and playing the full 90 minutes. Likened to Luka
Modrić, Caqueret is a technical playmaker who likes to get on the ball and dictate games, and his tactical intelligence and tenacity in the tackle allows him to play in any midfield role.

With Lyon underperforming this season in Ligue 1, Caqueret should get plenty more chances to show off his talents and he will be hoping that he can cement his place in the side, and perhaps go on to emulate some of the greats produced by Lyon in recent years.
