Player Talent Scout: Jérémy Doku

Posted on 21st October 2020

The Champions League made it’s return last night and there was a competition debut for Rennes and their new signing Jérémy Doku. The 18 year-old forward was signed from Belgian giants Anderlecht in the summer, making the move to Brittany despite links to Liverpool.

Doku made quite the impact when he replaced Romain Del Castillo for the final half hour of last night’s 1-1 draw with Krasnodar. The tricky winger, who has been likened to Sadio Mane, was a constant threat down the right flank, and on the evidence of his cameo he is one to watch in this season’s Champions League.

Doku made his debut for Anderlecht at the age of 16, and his form in Brussels over the last two seasons saw him receive his first call up for Belgium in September as a late sub against Denmark in the Nations League, he scored his first goal for his country three days later against Iceland, and has since gone on to win three more caps for his country.

With the eyes of all Europe’s biggest clubs on Doku’s Rennes teammate Eduardo Camavinga, a move to Rennes is a smart one for Doku, and if he can impress at Roazhon Park a move to one of the biggest European clubs will surely be on the cards.
